Santa Fe Plaza ~ Keri

As we were wrapping up the session (dang sun going down on us, humph) a few nuns were walking by and stopped to tell her how pretty she was on her senior graduation (it was clear some big senior bash was going on Santa Fe Plaza).  We had so much fun…I need to come up with a different way to say that I feel like I say it a lot, but it’s true so eh. After it was over we ate a fabulous South American place, nom. I love eating out in Santa Fe with people after photo sessions, I a lot of places I go normally don’t have restaurants near by like the Plaza does. Sorry, I kinda like food and am getting off track. Uh, well it was a freakin’ blast I love you Kerry Berry, I couldn’t have asked for a better SIL. You have inspired me by a life well lived and I mean well, exceptionally well.

SONY DSC  “DeAnn talked me into this photo shoot after I confided in her that I would like a picture of myself in a green dress because I vainly thought it would make my hair look more red. I’m sure she instantly had a vision of the scenery and lighting and my hair and makeup and the flowers on the trees and the color of the brick on the church…because she made sure I found my green dress and set a date for the magic to happen.”SONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSC “I had witnessed DeAnn’s energy and passion for portrait photography many times over the last several years. I envied the fresh look of the beautiful women in her photographs (many of whom I knew personally), because I knew their everyday work and worry worn faces had been given a day off. I knew her skilled eye could make a photo session transformative for the lucky participant – the layers of a tired mother carefully and respectfully peeled back to reveal the graceful, sensual woman inside. I intellectually comprehended what she was doing (I saw the results!), but I didn’t understand on a personal level how it felt to have my own neglected beauty revealed until I became her subject.”SONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSC “We picked an afternoon in May and she chose the Santa Fe plaza because she knew it well and loved several locations for backdrops. Before we could head up to take the pictures I had to magically transform into a sexy green dress wearing bombshell though…which I did with the help of DeAnn on makeup and [name] on hair. I felt like a million bucks when we left for Santa Fe, and that was all I needed to fall right into the role of model when DeAnn focused her lens on me.”SONY DSCSONY DSC “She gave me tips on how to hold my chin, shoulders, butt, legs for maximum flattering effect. She’d ask for a smile, then serious, then laughter, then my “smolder”, followed of course by more laughter. I strutted and posed and tried to look DEEPLY into her lens (because as she kept reminding me, “it’s ALL IN THE EYES”) Now, all of this intimate exposure was definitely made easier because DeAnn is my sister-in-law of almost 14 years, not to mention one of my best friends. But even if we’d just met the day of that photo shoot, it would have still been a great experience because of DeAnn’s good sense of humor (which was contagious that night), and her expertise – she was SO GOOD at knowing where to have me sit or stand and what ordinary looking wall would look amazing through the lens of a camera. “SONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSC “We spent hours soaking up the good lighting on the church steps, in front of the ivy-covered wall, and even in the middle of the road…and when the light was gone we were both disappointed to be done. The experience was magical because it made me feel beautiful – really truly beautiful. And feeling beautiful gave me the confidence to be sexy, be gorgeous, be bold. DeAnn captured all of that! I may not need 85 pictures of myself to hang in every room in my house, but I NEEDED to capture the experience of feeling gorgeous for a night. Funny thing, when I showed the pictures to my husband I expected him to be blown away…and while he really loved them (he couldn’t pick one favorite…he picked 12 favorites!), he said that’s how he saw me all the time. I guess I was the one who needed to see it. Thank you DeAnn!”

SONY DSC I love this woman. We had so much fun walking around the plaza laughing and talking as we went. Truly words fail me, I guess it’s a good thing I like to express my passion through photography. I am eternally grateful for the opportunities it has provided me. I have spent a lot of time with this lovely SIL of mine over the years and this was a neat and very sweet experience one I will honestly cherish. I am glad I could help her see her beauty the way I see her, the way her husband sees her, we already knew she was pretty, but it brings me sheer joy to prove to others they are. It’s not vain, it’s confidence building. I have never left showing someone their photographs and thought “wow they are so vain, what have I done?” I couldn’t find words earlier, now I just want to get on my soapbox and preach to everyone that there is worth in knowing you are beautiful. We women, put a lot of time and money buying products, applying products to feel good so why not take it a step further and have an experience that will enrich your life.

This family! This mama would do anything for any of her crew.  She is confident, and I adored her from the moment we started talking. She empowers her children. I saw a real family, a family not worried about pretending to be something in front of me or put on a show. I loved it. I saw a couple who loved each other, and was willing to let go and be silly. AND do they not have one of the coolest names ever!?

Santa Fe Plaza ~ Zipperian’s

Seeing how much two people love each other is beautiful anytime, but seeing how deep that love has become over the years is really heart warming.  I love the way they looked at each other, the way she got excited when he kissed her hand. They are perfectly comfortable and at home with each other. I wish you both many more years of marital bliss. Thanks for allowing me to drag you around the Santa Fe Plaza and photograph you lovely souls ❤

All the love,

Jemez ~ Christensen Family

This family ❤

We had a splendid time in the Jemez by the river making some memories that will last forever. Their oldest is about ready to leave the nest in a few months what better time to capture your family all together. They are an easy going group that loves to be together. I love how they got into throwing rocks in the river together. What a great group of humans, can I photograph you every week?! I always have so much fun getting to know those I get to work with and I do my best to make them feel special that when it’s over I’m sad Lol. Heather (the awesome mama) is crazy talented and we could visit all day about plants and sewing alone ha ha!

Hair and Make-up for the three oldest ladies was done by Veronice Spence HUMA.

Sand Bluffs ~ Graduating Class

This beautiful group is graduating from UNM in Dental Hygiene in May. Uh, I may have talked them onto the side of a cliff. Me and my HUMA/assistant Veronica went and scouted out two locations for group photos. I needed something in the shade sense it was like 1:30 when I started photographing this group and at this location there were two spots big enough for all of them. This cliff isn’t as big a drop as some of them Lol, I am glad they were adventurous 🙂 It must have been some requirement for them to be gorgeous to get into this class?! And didn’t they do a fab job of coordinating their outfits, bravo!!! I love that they didn’t want your typical business head-shots too for their grad photos! This was a long day, it’s a work out for all your faculties when you have 24 individual shots and two group photos, but man it was rewarding!

Big shout out to the beautiful lady in red, their class president Natalie for all the time it took to make this happen. She got extra photos as my way of saying thank you for her suggesting they have me photograph their class.

Jemez ~ McMurtrey Family

This family was so relaxed and easy going. They really are just a great family and it’s so abundantly clear how much they love each other. We had so much fun. She even told me her husband said something later to her about how it didn’t feel like they were getting there pictures taken. Success!!! That’s what I want! I want people to have a little adventure, and just enjoy being outside in a beautiful place with the people they love most. While I would take pictures of one kid everyone else was hiking around , they had a great time! Gahhh…could you ask for a prettier place?! I mean they are RED rocks! I love you Jemez muah! Let the cuteness commence…SONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSC

I think you got your cute fill today, your welcome 😉

Thanks McMurtrey family ❤

Thank You Veronica! She’s the HUMA I work with, she did Amy’s hair and make-up.

3 Rivers ~ My Loves

Making photographs of my kids is the hardest. Especially when they are all together. All they want to do is ignore me. I played the “it’s my birthday” card so please let me make pictures of you, purty please! They make me work for every bit of it Lol! Little turkeys! For my birthday I told my husband I wanted to go exploring and I wanted to make photographs of our kids. He came home Friday night with stuff to make sub sammies and breakfast burritos. Saturday morning we left the house at 7am. Off we went cruising towards Estancia. I asked where we were going and he told me the Estancia Valley Homesteading Festival. Sounds amazing right?! Well he had me going, but I was like “uh, I think I would have heard of it!” I help organize the Self-Reliance Fair in Edgewood so I’ve got my feelers out. He even went so far as to say to look it up online, and when I didn’t find anything he finally confessed that he was teasing me! He’s a good storyteller, he can weave some tales. And that is what he did for 3.5 hours on our way to White Sands every time I asked him where we were going. This was just a stop along the way the 3 Rivers Petroplyphs outside of Carizozo. I will do another post with our pictures from White Sands…GORGEOUS! Man I love day trips, they aren’t like a full on vacation which has it’s pros and cons, but I LOVE getting away and just forgetting about everything expect for my most cherished loved ones and the beauty in front of me. I can forget about EVERYTHING else and just be present. Long vacations are great, but the older I get the more I need a vacation to recoup from my vacation. The brain just doesn’t want to jump back in, and that first day after getting back is bleh. This doesn’t’ happen with a day trip or weekend trip. Any who, it was a perfect birthday. There was minimal grumpiness, and lots of laughs, and good memories made, and I got to make photos of my little loves, my kids even took my camera a few times on the trip and got pictures of me, I do exist ha ha!

Thanks babe, I needed this.

Cochiti Lake ~ Emilee

I am so glad I did maternity photos with DeAnn. I never thought I could feel beautiful at 8 plus months pregnant! I think every pregnant woman should have a glam maternity shoot. DeAnn is so wonderful to work with and puts you at ease. She’s so talented and will turn any shot into art. She loves what she does at it shows through her work. Not only did I receive amazing photos, I gained a wonderful memory and a great friendship.

Yeah, I just started this with a her testimonial, it’s important for you to hear from those I photograph. Photograph your life, have it made into art. Sometimes we don’t realize just how important until we do it or until the moments are gone forever. How many people don’t get their maternity photos done because they think _________ < insert self depreciating thought here and then regret it?! I do, A LOT! I’ll never be pregnant again, and I really wish I had just gotten over myself and gotten them done. Those moments are forever gone. Okay, Were not here to talk about regrets we are here to admire this beauty. She is just one of those people that is so easy to get a long with. She is warm, upbeat, and fun. We had an adventure, you’ll have to ask one of us about it 😉  it was a blast. Veronica the HUMA I work with is amazing! We all went out to dinner at the Plaza Cafe in Santa Fe afterwards, I highly recommend going out after your session. You gotta after you get all glammed up and you’re feeling like a million bucks(I’m so cliche 😉 but it’s true! You’ll be like “dang I’m hot!!! I feel like a million bucks!”
