Tent Rocks ~ Christensen’s

I was thinking about how each time I do a post I have to say something about each family, I mean I don’t have to, but you gotta say something haha! And really I have quite come to enjoy the chance to stop and ponder on what qualities and characteristics stand out for each family. I have gotten to know Ali through my kid’s school, she was my daughter’s 4th-grade teacher. She has the unique combo of fun and vibrant, but totally in charge, and loving and laid back all wrapped up in one beautiful package. I only met Justin the day of the shoot, but he was equally as laid back and it was fun to just see how they love their kids so hard but aren’t trying to force them into anything. Little man loved the sticks and rocks and could see nothing else, such a boy ❤ Little miss was the perfect balance of sugar and spice. Thak you for having me capture your family. They grow up so quick! I loved our time together!1DSC_52811DSC_55231DSC_55401DSC_55871DSC_53201DSC_53561DSC_56691DSC_56251DSC_53021DSC_54781DSC_56921DSC_56101DSC_55991DSC_53651DSC_57711DSC_5721  I hope you know you’re loved.

Kiwanis Cabin ~ Abbey

This woman is one of the best souls I have ever come across. We headed up to the top of the Sandia Mountains and hiked the mile over to the kiwanis cabin. I love that it is perched on the side of a cliff! It looks so neat from the tram and if you are just East of the cabin down the cliff a bit it feels very Inceptionish! The wind up there can be pretty narly and well it was on this day. It was so bad we couldn’t hear each other unless we were right next to one another. If you want my super insightful 😉 thoughts on wind and adversity then see Instagram and Facebook ha ha! I would be lying to you if I said this session wasn’t a challenge because of the gale force winds, but it was still a great time and it’s good to be pushed…at least I think so right now 😉 How could we not have fun, this chica is something special! The floral dress really suites her personality, bright, happy, and optimistic! Oh, and we found out she looks amazing in hats ha!

Jemez ~ McMurtrey Family

This family was so relaxed and easy going. They really are just a great family and it’s so abundantly clear how much they love each other. We had so much fun. She even told me her husband said something later to her about how it didn’t feel like they were getting there pictures taken. Success!!! That’s what I want! I want people to have a little adventure, and just enjoy being outside in a beautiful place with the people they love most. While I would take pictures of one kid everyone else was hiking around , they had a great time! Gahhh…could you ask for a prettier place?! I mean they are RED rocks! I love you Jemez muah! Let the cuteness commence…SONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSC

I think you got your cute fill today, your welcome 😉

Thanks McMurtrey family ❤

Thank You Veronica! She’s the HUMA I work with, she did Amy’s hair and make-up.

Three Generations ~ Santa Fe Plaza

There is something seriously special about gathering more then two generations together for photographs. Can you imagine how they will feel about these pictures 10, 20 years from now? Have you ever had pictures like this before? Or just random snapshots, where someone in the room realizes there are 3 or 4 generations of women and someone tells you all to quickly sit on the couch, uh hello bad lighting and unflattering poses. There is still value in those snapshots don’t get wrong, but how cool would it be if we all had nice portraits done with those we love!  Celebrate your love for your family!!!

We had a great time walking around the Santa Fe Plaza for these pictures, we laughed and laughed and just had a great time!

Thank you to Veronica Spence for being the MUA & assistant

Lordsburg ~ Fry Girls

This clip comes to mind when I think of “AlassKa!” and I also wonder if all towns in Alaska have one guy who has 10 jobs including entertainer, wink harharhar!? This beauty was 3 when me and my hubs got married. The first thing the chill and beautimous Abi (14) asked us like 20 minutes after we said our I do’s, of course put up to it by her devious 😉  mom was ” when am I going to have more cousins?” I was too out of it for the comment to sink in until later Lol! Good thing cause I think I would have turned 10 shades of red! It’s crazy how fast time goes and how quickly time flies especially when you don’t get to see them too often, such a joy for me to be able to take these photos. It’s a good thing her preferred wardrobe is basketball shorts and big tee shirts, I think that’s what I will be buying Zaya from here on out! It’s hard to cover up this much pretty, but it helps a smidge and as a Mom I’ll take what I can get 😉

This is 12 year old Clare. It’s neat how different siblings can look from one another, brown eyes and hair, blonde and blue eyed. They were so different in personality too, Abi was smiley and easy going, Clare was more like I would be…I’m gonna make you work for it. You want me to look like me then you’re gonna have to pull some tricks out of your tool box! Clare is a more serious, like me, but has loads of personality. She also seems to need to feel in control…what didn’t know I was a psychoanalyst ha! Well normally I wouldn’t do this break down, but it’s fun for me to see my nieces personalities, we’ll see if they think I pegged them or not!

My husband saw this and said she’s giving a way to grown up look there, well yes it’s intense, but not because it had anything to do with trying to be “sexy” she was putting a spell on me or something silly! She’s all about pranks and silliness, and will make a great attorney some day, we won’t go into the interrogation you gave me Clare 😉

Showing this Mom of 5 She IS Beautiful

If I had a dollar for every time I heard a woman say something like ” I haven’t had a nice photo of me taken since my wedding pictures.” I’d be loaded! Let me introduce you to this mom of 5, she loves being a stay at home mom, she loves homeschooling her kids, she loves being a wife. What she didn’t love was not having photos that showed her at her finest. It’s really not necessary to get glamed up on a daily basis, there’s nothing wrong with that, there’s nothing wrong with getting photos of our daily reality. But do you really want all the photos you have of yourself to be random snap shots? Don’t you want meaningful, purposeful photos that show you at your best? I can’t think of any reason not to have them done, can you?  As I chatted with Carla about what she wanted from her photo session, she basically said, I just want to look beautiful, feel beautiful, I don’t have any really nice photos of myself,” I’m not just a mom, I’m a woman.”

We went shopping and found this dress on sale at Dillard’s for about $20, if I remember right. The peplum top was $30 Lol. Did I mention we shopped with 6 kids, are we crazy or what haha! -Hair, make-up, and styling done by me. SONY DSC SONY DSC  SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC “My sister in law DeAnn has been talking to me about taking pictures for years. I always wanted to have my pictures taken and thought it would be great. She talked about it, but somehow I just never scheduled it. I would review a list of reasons why I shouldn’t do it / it wouldn’t work. I will share with you my concerns so you can see how lame they were (or how un-lame they were but how she put me at ease!) It took me a long time to admit this was probably the biggest reason, but I never made myself a priority. There was always something else that was more important than taking pictures of me. Mom is always the last on the list of people and things that need attending to, am I right? (I mean, really, how self indulgent, right?). There are far more important things to get done (and pay for) than pictures of mom!!! Maybe deep down there was a part of me that was just self conscious of how those pictures would turn out – that they would reveal I truly was a frumpy mother of 5 that was nothing of the stunning girl that met a young man at a dance 14 years ago. In politically correct terms, I would be called extremely “practical” or “frugal”. I think I almost choked when I heard what professional photos would run for. I figured for that price I could tolerate my 13 mega pixel camera phone. I was amazed at the breadth of difference between the two! I had literally NO IDEA how complicated it is to take an AMAZING picture. Through a series of conversations, observation over the last several years, and having her take my pictures, I was blown away by how many things have to be worked out: lighting, equipment, location, body positioning, the difference jewelry can make, etc etc!!! (I felt ridiculous with some of the poses or things she had me do, but those were some of the best pictures! SHOCKED. SPEECHLESS. AMAZED. That is how I felt when she showed me the pictures. It was a perfect mix of “Is that me?” and “I can’t believe how good I look!” to “Do I actually look like that??” I can see why DeAnn quotes that every woman should have one good picture of herself at least every 10 years”  My husbands comment when he saw it said it all: “Wow!!!! Ouch, I think I just burned myself while looking at her because she is so hot!” Ultimately DeAnn has a combination of talent, skill, experience, equipment, and creativity that won me over. :0) Yes, I realize how lame my excuses are, so I am not sure why it took me so long to have her take my pictures!! Probably because I didn’t think they would turn out so amazing.” – Carla SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC I don’t know why, but when I first started doing these kinds of portraits I didn’t really think to ask husbands what they thought. As I did get feed back from women I kept hearing about their husbands reactions and well some of it wouldn’t be appropriate to share hehe. “Surprise and excitement filled my heart as I first viewed my dear wife’s photos. Instantly they reminded me of the gorgeous young woman who had taken my hand in marriage those many years before. They are the outward expression of the beauty and love she holds in my eyes each day, but is easily forgotten with the daily burdens of family life. I am so grateful for DeAnn’s gift in photography that made it possible to capture this feeling for all time. I would encourage any husband to call DeAnn and plan a special day for his wife to do a photo shoot. He will never regret it!!” -Doug
